Nadiatul's amazing first birth
06/06/16 (due date) - First day of Ramadhan
7 am - Mild irregular surge and mild back pain (I thought it was braxton hicks) 8 am - Surge was still irregular. I decided to walk around my room for 30 mins and see if it gets stronger and closer together. But surge was still irregular. The surge was between an 8 to 20mins interval, 30 secs - 3 mins long. Watched Youtube and relaxed, surge was still very mild. 10 am - Surge came every 5 mins. Took a hot shower but still contemplating whether it was true labor because the pain was still bearable. 1030 am - Told hubby l had front and back pain and decided to go to the hospital. 'Layan' surge while getting ready. Hubby thought l was far from labor because l can still do my make up haha. 1050 am - Whatsapped my CBE Nadine Ghows to make sure if it was true labor. Surge came every 4 mins then 3 mins. Lasted for an average of 1 min. It was very strong. 1110 am - Went to the hospital, surge was 2 mins apart and lasted for 90 secs. It started to get so intense that l know l was in labor, asked hubby to drive faster but he said, "Chill, if he wants to come out in the car then let him". Lol. Hubby was so calm and he can still laugh. 1130 am - Reached the hospital. A nurse offered me a wheel chair to go straight to the labor room because l looked so much in pain and my face was already pale. But l insisted to walk. I was fasting before, l then had milo for energy while walking to labor room. 12 noon - Dr Mathew came in and did VE. I was 9.5cm dilated. The urge to poop was so strong and l can't stand it. A midwife came in and talked about painkillers and epidural. She said, "kalau nak enjoy bersalin, kita ada banyak painkiller. Bersalin memang sakit, tak nak sakit jangan bersalin". I felt like slapping her face but l just ignored her. And then the staff midwife came in, l remember Dr Mathew told us to give our birth preference to the midwives and nurses under his order. The staff midwife asked all the midwives to read it. I got the staff midwife in-charge, very kind and professional. She practiced as a midwife in Saudi for 5 years, no wonder she was so good. Only hubby and the staff midwife were in the LR. Hubby played surah to keep me calm, made du'a and hold my hand. I put on lavender essential oil on my temple and my palm to keep calm. 1230 pm - I can't stand the intense sensation and asked the staff midwife if l can push the baby out. Tried to lie on my left side but the sensation got more intense so l laid on my back. She asked me if l wanted to call Dr Mathew. I said okay. I then had a heavy show. Dr came in. I pushed, he saw the sac and my water membrane broke. My baby's head is quite big, his head crowned for about 10 mins, he said it was too long. He worried my baby's heartbeat might drop so he asked me to push. He said he had to do episiotomy if the heartbeat drop. But my baby was so strong his heartbeat maintained normal. He applied some gel to soften my perineum and to avoid tears. 216 pm - l gave birth to my first child weighing 3.45kg. No perineal tears or episiotomy. I only had internal tears that required some stitches. What l achieved : No episiotomy No epidural nor painkillers No AROM DCC until blood stop pulsating Husband cut the cord Immediate skin to skin Baby was bathed the next day to allow vernix absorption No syntometrine injection VE only once throughout the whole pregnancy CTG only for 20 mins No IV drip The Dr also approved : Side-lying & all four position Hot shower and walking in the LR Eating light food & drink Normal breech delivery depending on the condition of the mom and the baby, however my baby turned at 37w5d after some rebozo exercise I gave birth at Amanjaya Specialist Centre Sungai Petani. First green hospital in Malaysia. Very calming and soothing environment. What l like the most, this hospital smells and looks like a hotel! Haha. My gynae was Dr Mathew J.
